Paris was an important center for the decorative arts, where many artists and craftsmen were involved in the creation of the finest objects, such as mantel clocks, candelabra, candlesticks, sculptures and other works of decorative arts.
The art of gilded bronze reached its pinnacle at the end of the 18th century, when the imagination of the forms, the casting, the chasing and the gilding had simultaneously reached a level of absolute perfection. The period that then extends from the proclamation of the Directory onward experienced an unprecedented acceleration of stylistic evolution. This was punctuated by the production of works of astonishing elegance and luxury.
Thanks to these very talented artists and craftsmen we are able to show some of their masterpieces in our gallery. The stories of their lives which we present here, will give an additional dimension to the appreciation of these artworks.
