French bronze sculptures: works of art
Antique bronze sculptures and statues, from the 19th century are one of the main categories of our gallery. In the 19th century several artistic trends suddenly appeared which influenced the French bronze sculptures and bronze statues of the time. They are: Neoclassicism, Romantism, Eclecticism, Realism, Naturalism and finally Art Nouveau.
Since the Middle Ages French sculpture has been an important part of world art. It originally copied ancient Roman models. Later it found its own original form in the decoration of Gothic architecture. Sculptors in France produced important works of Baroque sculpture for the decoration of the Palace of Versailles.
