Mythological Empire Clock with “Diana Huntress”
Refined mythological Empire clock in mercury gilded bronze with Diana Huntress. This mythological Empire clock represents Diana Huntress with her quiver and arrows on her back. Diana is standing on the right side of clockwork case. She holds her bow in front and her faithful dog is by her side. In Greek and Roman mythology Diana is the patroness of the countryside, hunters, crossroads, and the Moon.
The base of the clock has refined decorations, in mercury gilded bronze, both on the front and on the sides of the case. On the sides and in the middle of the front decoration we see horns which are typically used during the hunt. The clock rests on an oblong base, resting on four spinning top feet with knurled decoration.
The clock case has an enamel dial in perfect condition signed by the watchmaker “Choiselat Gallien à Paris”. The Tardy dictionary of French clock makers lists this clock maker as active during the early 19th century.
