Pair of Marble Empire Vases with Gilt Bronze Ornamentation
Pair of marble Empire vases with gilt bronze ornamentation
Pair of very decorative sea green marble Empire vases with gilt bronze ornamentation. Because of its deep colour and lively structure the marble is very decorative. The gilt bronze decorations of this pair of marble Empire vases show a lyre (the musical instrument associated with Apollo), swan-headed handles and palm leaves. The swan, like the lyre, was a symbol of Apollo, the god of music.
The vases were made to be used as incense burners, besides being beautiful objects of decoration. With their size of 45 cm high they are a good match beside an Empire clock to make an amazing clock set.
