Exquisite pair of gilt and patinated bronze Empire Medici vases
Pair of gilt and patinated bronze Empire Medici vases
Rare pair of gilt and patinated bronze Empire Medici vases / campana urns. The body of this elegantly crafted pair of Empire vases has been executed in brown patinated bronze with beautifully contrasting applied decorations in mercury gilded bronze. On the front of the body of the vases appears a central antique bacchanalian frieze, each of them with a different mythological subject, and decorated in the lower part with water leaves. Further, they each have a gadrooned rim with an openwork gallery and to the sides they have bearded satyr mask handles. The vases stand on a foot and collar with decorations of leaves and the whole rests on multi layered square pedestal enhanced with laurel wreaths and palm leaves.
This exquisite pair of vases is in an excellent state of preservation with their original mercury gilding.
