Sumptuous large pair of French Empire candlesticks

Large pair of French Empire candlesticks

This unusually large pair of gilt bronze French Empire candlesticks is of royal proportions with sumptuous decorations. Its large circular base has a ring of finely chiseled palm leave patterns on the outside, and two rings of contrasting burnished gilding. Separated by these two rings, we find beautiful chiseled decorations of palm leaves, flowers, grape vines and geometrical figures. All of these decorations have a background of a fine dot pattern. On this base stands a pedestal with further decorations of lyres and flower vases, supporting a tapering stem with a unique fish scale pattern. This stems ends in a stylized flower basket and is crowned by an equally richly decorated candle holder.

These French Empire candlesticks have been made with elaborately chiseled details and mat and glossy mercury gilding. They are in an excellent state of preservation.
