Characteristic historical mantel clock with Roman soldier theme of excellent manufacture, from the Restoration period around 1815-1830. Executed in mercury gilt bronze with a superb state of conservation.

The main subject of this stunning clock is a relatively large sculpture with the figure of a Roman soldier. He is wearing a helmet and holding a sword in his hand. Further we see a quiver of arrows and a weapon shield beside him. The soldier sits on a rock decorated with plants and flowers. Also this rock contains the movement with a white enameled dial, surrounded by a snake as a decoration. Finally, a rectangular base, decorated with a frieze of laurel wreaths and an emblem with a soldier and a sword behind it, is supporting the impressive statue.

The original movement has a wire suspension pendulum and strikes the hour and half hour on a bell. It has been serviced and cleaned by a professional clock maker and is in working condition. Also it is delivered complete with its pendulum, key and bell.

This imposing historical clock with Roman soldier is very decorative and of high manufacturing quality with superb mercury gilding.
