This Empire mantel clock in gilt bronze portrays Alexander the Great as a warrior. On his left shoulder he wears a lion’s head and skin, which he also used to wear on his head as a helmet. In his right hand he wears a crown since he succeeded his father King Philip II to the throne at the age of 20. Upon his father’s death, Alexander moved quickly to eliminate his competitors and become king. The rectangular base of this clocks has applied decorations of war trophies. It rest on two claw feet on the front side and toupee feet on the back side.
Further, the movement with anchor escapement and silk thread suspension strikes the hour and half hours on a bell. It has a white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals and blued-steel Breguet style hands for the hours and minutes.
This Empire clock is in an excellent and perfectly working condition. Also, it has been cleaned and serviced by a professional clock maker. The clock comes complete with its pendulum, key and bell.

Alexander the Great
Alexander III of Macedon, commonly known as Alexander the Great, was born in Pella—a city in Ancient Greece—around July 20, 356 B.C. He was the son of King Philip II and Olympias (one of Philip’s seven or eight wives) and was brought up with the belief that he was of divine birth. Alexander received his education from Aristotle himself. His education infused him with a love of knowledge, logic, philosophy, music and culture. Also Philip decided to leave his 16-year-old son in charge of Macedonia while he was away on campaign. Philip was assassinated in 336 B.C. while celebrating the wedding of his daughter. Upon his father’s death, Alexander moved quickly to consolidate power. He succeeded his father King Philip II to the throne at the age of 20, and spent most of his ruling years conducting a lengthy military campaign throughout Western Asia and Northeastern Africa. By the age of thirty, he had created one of the largest empires in history, stretching from Greece to northwestern India. He was undefeated in battle and is widely considered to be one of history’s greatest and most successful military commanders.
